Interim Payroll Manager
Chambers Talent
If you’re an experienced Payroll Manager available at short notice and looking for a role that offers both operational ownership and the opportunity to influence the direction of payroll delivery then this role is worth a look.
Â
We are working with a premium group business based in Wellingborough to recruit an interim Payroll Manager, starting as soon as possible. The business is looking for a seasoned specialist to step in, run an already stable function, support through pay review season and work with the wider team on establishing what good payroll looks like moving forward.

Payroll Manager
ÂŁ50,000 – ÂŁ60,000 DOE
Wellingborough – Hybrid (3 days on-site / 2 days remote)
6 Month Fixed Term Contract (Immediate Start)
Â
Working in close partnership with Finance and HR across the group, you will take full day-to-day ownership of a well-run group payroll bureau. The portfolio covers approximately 650 employees across 5 to 6 distinct payrolls spanning the UK&I +1.
Â
While you will have support from finance, you will be the senior subject matter expert accountable for the end-to-end cycle—overseeing timely, accurate monthly processing, statutory returns, P11D submissions, and auto-enrolment reconciliations. You will also steer the function smoothly through the upcoming annual pay review cycle.
Â
While this might be a “keep the wheels turning” role initially, you arrive at a pivotal moment as a long serving, font of payroll knowledge exits and the business looks to future proof payroll delivery
Â
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for a hands-on, technically proficient Payroll Manager who has managed a similarly complex payroll portfolio. You should be comfortable with the operational detail of running multiple payrolls, but equally brings a curious and consultative approach to continuous improvement. Strong payroll systems knowledge (Cascade/Sage/ADP would be hand) alongside advanced Excel skills will stand you in good stead.
